Major studies have proved that the Alexander Technique has significant long term benefits for easing lower back pain [BMJ Aug 2008]. By learning how to use our spines with correct balance and alignment we move with ease and fluidity.
The Alexander Technique works by helping you to identify and prevent the harmful postural habits that aggravate, or may be the cause of, stress, pain and under-performance. You will learn how to release tension and rediscover balance of body and mind. With increased awareness you can be poised without stiffness. Move gracefully and powerfully with less effort. Breathe and speak more freely. Used extensively in the performing arts, it is equally beneficial for all activities and people of all ages. Lessons are given one-to-one, allowing the pupil to be guided by the hands of the teacher into better alignment and balance. Lessons are given with the pupil fully clothed, and usually the pupil will have work whilst resting on the treatment table, followed by gentle movements either stood, sat or walking. The work is gentle and calming. |
